After The Samogon Affair, the question was what happened to Kelly Reed, which I answered in Playing for Blood. After finishing Playing for Blood, the question became what is Kelly going to do now.
Everyone has to work, right? Now that Kelly has an extra load to bear, she needs money and finds work in the private sector as an investigator and security consultant.
Crime fans who prefer a female sleuth in a hard-boiled thriller rather than a cozy mystery will be pleased the Kelly Reed series is transitioning into the (dare I say) tart-noir genre. In the first two books Kelly is a DEA agent, but in Playing for Blood Kelly had no choice but to quit. Not one to let her skills go to waste, she starts her own private investigation agency: KRI (Kelly Reed Investigations).
Whispers That Kill
In Whispers That Kill, fans get to ride side by side with Kelly on an emotional roller coaster after she makes a life altering decision and transitions from the DEA into the private sector. And former teammate, Lori Bishop, comes with her. Kelly and Lori’s relationship is an integral part of the series. In The Samogon Affair, you see them only as teammates. In Playing for Blood, Lori gets more involved in Kelly’s life, and towards the end fans see how their professional relationship buds into a trusting friendship.
Read the sneak peek to Whispers That Kill and then check out the excerpts. Afterward, you’ll want to dive into the book and read it cover to cover. Hopefully the wait won’t be too long.
